The Biggest Loser 9/30/08

Allison announced that the remaining teams were going to go to the Grand Canyon. Everyone was excited, but scared. Everyone wondered what torture lied ahead.

On the road trip they stopped at a pit stop, Allison pulled up in a nice RV. When they were inside checking it out, someone set up a cot and sleeping bag. The temptation was in a convenience store. They had to guess the closest calorie count of a convenience store food, without going over, won a pack of gum. Who ever got three packs of gum first, got to sleep in the RV. The inconvenient rule, if you don't have the winning guess, you have to eat the snack.

First, was a chocolate covered caramel. 26 calories. Orange guessed right, Purple, Pink and Red were eating it.
Second, was string cheese. Again, Orange won with 80 calories, Purple, Pink and Red were eating.
Third, a hot dog with 240 calories, no one but Orange played, they guessed 10 calories and won, because no one else played.

A twist, preview. No one will be voting in tonight's elimination.

They stood and overlooked the Grand Canyon on the west side. They had their soap opera moment where they analogized their lives with the Grand Canyon. Something beautiful will happen over time. Blargh.

They made it to the camp site, and moved into their tents, tossed the medicine ball around. They were lost without the direction of their trainers. Some of them decided to go for a walk.

The next we see the teams, they are on the river. Yellow Dad is now medically cleared to compete. The challenge is one family member starts paddling in a kayak. The other family member stays behind on the dock and tries to pull the other teams back to the dock. The last dock to touch the dock wins. The prize? A Jayco RV. Wahoooo.

Purple made a crucial error when the dock mate pushed all of the rope into the water at once instead of feeding it in. The rope got tangled under water and the kayaker was stuck. When the other mate was allowed to start pulling the ropes, coming in was Pink, Purple, Brown, Yellow. It came down to Red and Orange. Red guy was on the dock pulling Orange guy, Red girl pulling Orange girl. Orange wins the challenge and the RV.

Back at camp, Colleen from the Yellow team had a birthday. Everyone went around and said nice things about her. All the nice things being said about her made her dad cry. His crying made all of the other parents cry.

Orange is bragging, hope that doesn't come back to bite them. Meanwhile, back at the ranch. Everyone was so happy. Orange said they were going to be in the top three. (I'm guessing bottom) No one is looking forward to working out, for the first time at the last chance work out.

Bob was upset that they didn't hike, or work out while they were gone. They were telling him how bored they all were, and uninspired they were in regards to the working out.

The teams were whining to Jillian that they were outside on their own, they went for a few walks, but didn't know what to do. So, she taught them how to cook for an entire week so that they would have all the food prepared in advance. Also giving the Ziploc vacuum bags a plug.

Bob's last chance workout, was no gym, using all of the items they had when they were camping. Jillian did the same. Yellow Dad is hurting again, he's really limping. One of his legs is swollen, they think he may have a blood clot. Jillian took the rest of them to the gym, while Dad went to the hospital. Bob brought his team in to work out. Jillian was beating up the Pink daughter and she wouldn't tell her to stop, she just sat there crying. Jillian kept asking her "what do you want to say to me?" She never said anything, she just kept taking the beating and crying. Jillian told her to set some boundaries for herself, and get a voice. She said you need to tell me to "stop hitting me you crazy person." Jillian kept at it until she finally got her to say "I'm not going to kick today."

Yellow came back from the hospital, no clot, but he has a torn hamstring. His daughter was relieved that it wasn't more severe like a blood clot or infection.

Who's whining? Purple, they're not campers. Red, guessed wrong, and whined. Everyone whined while camping. Everyone whined about the kayaking. Brown is whining that they came to work out, not camp. Red was whining that her arms were going to fall off.

At the weigh in the teams learn that no one will be voting tonight. Only one family will fall below the yellow line. Only one person from that team will be going home. The family will decide amongst themselves which member goes home.

Red lost 15 pounds for a total of 2.95%
Orange lost 16 pounds for a total of 2.72%
Purple lost 9 pounds for a total of 2.14%
Pink lost 9 pounds for a total of 1.91%
Brown lost 8 pounds for a total of 1.51%
Yellow lost 5 pounds, the daughter lost 7 the Dad gained 2. For a total of .89%

Yellow team has one hour to decide who is going to go home. (I'm guessing Dad) He tells her as her father, she has to take this opportunity, his injury is going to slow him down anyway. He is ready to go home. She says he needs to be here to be healthy. She doesn't want him to die, he needs to stay. He says he couldn't take the opportunity from his child.

In the elimination room the teams gather to find out which person on the yellow team is going home. The teams take turns saying nice things to the Yellow team. Of course we have to drag it out soap opera style. How does that make you feel? Dad is going home.

Dad lost a total of 20 pounds, even though he couldn't work out to the Biggest Loser equivalent. He got off his blood pressure meds in the three weeks he's been there. He runs 1.5 miles, and does 5 miles on the bike every day. Dr. H. flies out to surprise him. He's off of four of his five cardiac medicines. He has lost a total of 70 pounds, and he looks great. A big improvement from only being able to walk for 7 minutes when he arrived at the ranch.
