Without a Trace 9-23-08

We see two men running through the streets. The chaser disappears.

Sam is back from maternity leave, struggling to hide the multitude of stains. There is a new agent. Medina reports that a Ryan Mitchell was reported missing by his ex-wife. Mitchell's daughter disappeared three years ago and was never found.

Medina starts asking for strategy and assigns different interviews, but leaves Jack out of the loop. Jack looks pissed.

16 hours missing. They are interviewing the ex-wife. Wondering why he'd chase a guy wondering if there would be anything he wouldn't tell the police. She said yes, he was very involved in finding his daughter. During a flashback we find out that he was with the daughter when she went missing. The wife tells him to let her go. She then reports that every Sunday the dad and daughter would go for icecream. The dad hasn't been able to revisit the street, but the mom goes every week.

They are listening to the first interview that the dad gave after his daughter's disappearance. They flash back to where the girl goes missing. They had just left the ice cream shop when someone bumps into him, he drops his stuff and when he reaches down to pick it up she vanishes. No one saw the girl after she went missing. They discuss whether or not the girl may have known her abductor.

Ryan, the dad, paid a psychic and at 18 hours missing the team is at the psychic's place of business. They ask the psychic where Ryan is, the psychic says he can't talk about it. They ask if he's hiding behind "Psychic/Client Privilege"

The psychic tells them that things are not always as they seem. During the flashback the psychic is telling of a black wall. He asks Mr. Mitchell, "what are you hiding?" Then says "you killed your daughter." Says he didn't report that to the police because he was afraid he'd be killed.

19 hours missing we're back in the office. Jack and Sam are discussing the liklihood that he killed the daughter. Sam argues that he wouldn't have kept up the search for three years. She then offers up Ryan's Easy Pass log they match his sales calls except for one. Then they discover he's joined a support group for parents with missing children. The support group leader says she doesn't think he killed her. He was starting to help other parents deal with their loss.

The team speaks with parents who were being helped by Ryan. One of the parent's disclosed that Ryan had hated the psychic and hadn't seen him in a long time. However, the last check to clear Ryan's bank was to that psychic and it was quite large. The team had assumed that the large check was for keeping the secret. The parent said Ryan intended on exposing the psychic as a fraud.

Jack is in therapy discussing the new boss. Jack says he's a "good soldier" the therapist asks if he can be a soldier when he has been a general. Jack says the job is about finding people. The therapist says the Universe gives us advice. She advises him to examine why he does the things he does. She asks if this job is supposed to cost this much. He says self awareness does not lead to transformation, it leads to self justification. She asks why he keeps coming back, he's not required to be there.

20 hours missing. They have the psychic in the interview room. Accusing him of killing Ryan. They remind him that he committed a felony by lieing to a federal agent and he's going to lose everything fighting to keep himself out of jail. They flash back to a scene where Ryan is handing the psychic a check and telling the psychic to leave the other parents alone. It's not the grief that kills you, it's the hope.

The team finds a lead in the another kid's disappearance. They track it back to a guy that looks exactly like the sketch of the guy being chased by Ryan. It was also a guy who had been visited by Ryan several weeks prior, and had a recent arrest for kiddie porn. Sam and Martin go to check him out only to be told that he'd left an hour ago. They see him on the street. Sam chases after him on foot, Martin blocks him with his car, and Sam punches him in the face knocking him out.

21 hours missing Jack goes into Medina's office and tells him of a lead up in Albany where the body of the missing boy may have been buried. Sam asks Jack to cover for her while she runs home to check the baby. Medina asks who should go to Albany. Medina tells Jack "let's take your car."

When they get up to Albany, they run into a kid who saw Ryan digging lots of holes on his father's farm. The kid asked Ryan what he was doing, he answered that his friend had lost something and he was looking for it. Ryan tells him, it's not here, I made a mistake. Asks the kid to tell his dad he's sorry for digging all the holes.

He then gives up the search for that kid as well as his own. But the team has found his daughter. All the little puzzle pieces lead to a substitute teacher the girl had right before her disappearance. But now they have to find Ryan as well. The get an Easy Pass hit and discover him at the icecream shop. They take him back to the office where he sees his daughter and his ex-wife.

The Presidential Debate 9/26/08

Where do you stand on the economic recovery plan?

Obama -
#1 Oversight of $700 billion
#2 Assure tax payers can get their money back
#3 No Golden Parachutes
#4 Protect Homeowners

Says trickle down economics do not work.

McCain -

Transparency
Accountability
Need to create jobs
Eliminate dependence on foreign oil

Are you in favor of economic bailout?

Obama - Haven't seen it. Says he wrote to Secretary of Treasury to point out problems.

McCain - Also warned about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac and corporate pay. We need to reward people who succeed. Not reward greed and corruption. He'll hold people responsible accountable.

McCain says we need to get spending under control. He says he will veto any spending bill. He says Obama has asked for almost a million dollars a day for every day he was in the Senate.

Obama says he suspended everything for his state. Ear marks account for $18 billion he says McCain is asking for $300 billion dollars in tax breaks for corporations. He wants to grow the economy from the bottom up.

McCain says Obama only suspended pork barrel spending in his state after he began to run for President. Says Obama has proposed $800 billion in new spending.

Obama says he's closing corporate loopholes. He says eliminating earmarks will not get the middle class back on track.

McCain says the business tax is the second highest business tax in the world 35% - if you go to a country where the rate is 11% you'll make money. If you cut the tax rate you'll keep jobs here, and create more. He wants to give every family a $5000 refundable tax credit to buy health care. Double the dependant child dividend from $3500 to $7000.

Obama's definition of rich. If you make less than $250,000 you will not see a tax increase. He says business tax loopholes have an effective tax rate that is one of the lowest in the world. Says the $5000 tax credit but the tax benefits will be taxed. He doesn't believe that the market can solve everything.

McCain says they had an energy bill that had billions of dollars of breaks for the oil corporations. He voted against it, Obama voted for. Obama has voted to raise taxes on $42,000 -

Obama says not true, but doesn't defend it.

The financial rescue - As President of whatever financial rescue plan, what are you going to have to give up to pay for the rescue plan?

Obama - doesn't know what the budget will look like next year. Has to have energy independence. 10 years we'll be free of international oil. Have to fix health care. We have to compete in education, science and technology. Have to make sure our children are keeping pace. Make college affordable. Rebuild our infrastructure. Also make sure electricity grid is capable of getting new energy to places it's needed.

McCain - WE HAVE TO CUT SPENDING Government is completely out of control. Can't reach across the aisle as far left as Obama is. He would eliminate ethanol subsidies. We have to do away with cost plus contracts for defense. Fixed cost contracts. Defense spending is very important, but we have to get the cost overruns under control. We have to examine every agency in government and get rid of anyone who isn't doing his job.

Obama we give away $15 billion to private insurers through the Medicaid program. Says he's not super liberal, just opposes Bush. He wants to make a Google for Government to list for the taxpayer what they are spending on.

McCain a spending freeze on everything except national defense and caring for veterans.

Obama wants to increase early childhood education. We're currently spending $10 billion a month in Iraq, need to bring war to a close.

McCain says we're sending $700 billion to countries that don't like us. We need offshore drilling and nuclear energy. We could create 700,000 jobs by building 45 nuclear power plants by 2030.

Obama the bailout will affect our budgets. Even if the economy recovers and we get the money back, we won't see the money for awhile. The tax revenues will be down.

McCain doesn't want to hand the health care system over to they federal Government. We have to cut spending. Obama has $800 billion in new spending programs. We can adjust spending to take care of current programs. A healthy economy with low taxes, without raising any ones taxes, is the best recipe for economic recovery along with spending restraint. We're here because spending is out of control. Has plans to reduce wasteful spending.

Obama brings up that McCain agrees with Bush 90% of the time.

McCain says he has opposed the President on climate change, Guantanamo, how the Iraq war has been operated.

What are the lessons of Iraq?

McCain You cannot have a failed strategy that will lead you to nearly lose a conflict. The war was mishandled after we took Baghdad. Says new strategy has succeeded. Troops will come home not in defeat. Consequences of defeat are greater Iranian influence. Thanks to General Petrais, we will come home, not in defeat.

Obama six years ago he opposed the war. Not only did we not know how much it would cost, or how it would affect our relationships around the world. Hadn't caught Bin Laden, haven't finished Afghanistan. Spent $600 billion and 4,000 lives. Al Qaeda is as strong as it's been since 2002. $79 billion military surplus during the economic crisis at home. Military needs to be used to keep Americans safe.

McCain will have to decide when we leave and what we leave behind. Says Obama said troop surge wouldn't work, then said it exceeded his expectations, but still would not have voted for surge.

Obama says issues of Afghanistan and Iraq don't go through his committee. Violence has been reduced due to our troops and military families. Surge was a tactic to contain damage of mismanagement. War has only been successful since 2007. "Who is best equipped as to how we use our military?"

McCain says Obama doesn't understand the difference between tactic and a strategy. He's been to Iraq. Says troops tell him to "let us win, we don't want our kids coming back here." Obama voted to cut off funding for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Obama says McCain opposed funding for troops in legislation with a time table. He says he opposed funding for troops without a timetable. Didn't want to give a blank check to George Bush. We should end the war responsibly, in phases. Wants to capture and kill Bin Laden.

McCain says Obama's plan is dangerous according to General Patrais. Iraq is the central battle ground. Says Obama's timeline would have pulled the troops out before the troop surge. If we adopt Obama's plan we will have a wider war.

Do you think more US troops should go to Afghanistan, how many and how soon?

Obama - Highest fatalities among US troops in 2007 since 2002. 2-3 additional brigades to Afghanistan. We have to deal with a growing popply trade. We have to deal with Pakistan. We've been giving Pakistan $10 billion.

McCain - A new strategy has to be employed in Afghanistan. Need cooperation of the people in the country.

What is your reading of the threat from Iran?

McCain -They are a threat to Israel, we cannot have a second Holocaust. We could impose significant, painful sanctions on the Iranians that would have a beneficial effect. We can with a League of Democracy control them. They are on the path to nuclear weapons. They are putting the most lethal IED's into Iraq. They are a threat to security in the world, and with our friends can contain them.

Obama - The single thing that has strengthened Iran is the war in Iraq. The policy over the last 8 years has not worked. We need tougher sanctions. We need to include Russia and China as allies against Iran. We need tough direct diplomacy. Our efforts of isolation has increased their path to nuclear weapons.

Survivor 9/25/08

So, I watched it. The teams were picked. One is called Fang, although it's pronounced Fong. The other Kato. Fang just happens to have all of the underdogs on it. I guess that like attracts like.

It was a two hour show. Two eliminations. The first elimination sent Michelle home. from the Tribe of Fang. She was the last picked, didn't play the game. She found it hard to pretend to like people she didn't like. Buh bye.

Second to go was Gillian. One of the two oldest. She started the picking of Tribe Fang, and did a poor job. See ya.

I found it to be boring, maybe it's just the first episode and I haven't picked my favorites. Maybe it's just that I don't care. I'll give it one more chance, but I can't stand the gameplay. I don't like that everyone feels they have to lie, lie, lie to stay in the game. I would like for once, even on a reality game show for someone to tell the truth.

The Amazing Race 13 - 9-28-08

Introducing the teams:

Anthony and Stephanie

The on again off again couple, hoping that stress and pressure will bring them back together. Place your bets now. He's a mortgage broker, she's a financial saleswoman. Knowing what we know now, let's hope they win, they probably don't have jobs anymore.

Toni and Dallas
A Mother/Son team. She won't let go is hoping for some quality time. He thinks she talks too much.

Nick and Starr

The brother/sister team. Meaning there will be fighting and crying and they won't have to "evaluate" their relationship every episode. They were bitter enemies in high school, let's see if that doesn't make for some drama.

Anita and Arthur

(the hippies)

They, and I quote from CBS's website, "make their own honey" now that is talent. I thought only bees could make their own honey. With such powers they may be the ones to contend with.

Kelly and Christy

(the bff's)

Divorce's out to see the world. (sorry, I doubt that's punctuated correctly). Their friendship handled their divorces, let's see what non-stop travel and stress will do to it.

Ken and Tina

Married but separated and bicoastal. Their biography is quick to point out their Christianity and his unfaithfulness. Wondering if this will be the token bash Christians team. Hope not.

Terence and Sarah

Happily dating for over a year, and going to ruin it in under a month she has an MBA from Wharton, he is a running coach who pays the bills by selling real estate.

Marisa and Brooke

The blonde team. There master plan? Flirting.

Andrew and Dan

Frat boys, apparently been named "Team Superbad" by their fellow racers.

Aja and Ty

The long distance daters. This could either be really good, or really bad, depending on how much stake they place in the race making or breaking their relationship.

Mark and Bill

Comic book geeks. One has traveled on has not. They've been friends for 25 years. They'll probably come out with their relationship in tact.

So, I'm really bad at assessing the teams from the get go. I counted O'Brother out of Season 2 early on and they went on to the final three. The last set of blondes did really well, Miss New York and Miss California made it pretty far, and the winner of the All Stars was originally part of a blonde team. I'm wondering who'll be the Myrna/Schmyrna team this season. I don't know, some one has got to be annoying, I just can't pick them from their pictures.

Tune in Sunday after 60 minutes to find out.
